Environmental issues Mind map PDF for Class 12 NEET
Any undesirable change in physical, chemical and biological characteristic of air, water, land or soil is called as pollution. Pollutants are agents that bring those undesirable change or cause pollution.
Environmental protection act was launched in 1986 to protect our environment from pollution.
Air pollution contains particulate matter and gaseous pollutants from smokestacks of factories etc. Central pollution control board (cpcb) controls and checks different type of pollution in India. Particulate matters less than 2.5 micrometer (PM 2.5) are most harmful to human health.

Particulate matter which are very small can cause harmful effects on health like respiratory problems, irritation, information, damage to lungs and also can lead to premature death.
Environmental issues are of great global concern. From air and water pollution to climate change, deforestation, and species extinction, the environment is suffering due to human activities. Without immediate action, the environment will continue to degrade and the quality of life of present and future generations will be at stake.
This article will explore the main environmental issues, their causes, and possible solution.
Air pollution is one of the most serious environmental issues. Pollutants such as carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen dioxide are released into the air by burning fossil fuels, such as coal and oil, for energy. These pollutants can contaminate the air we breathe, leading to health problems such as respiratory illnesses, heart problems, and cancer. To reduce air pollution, we can switch to renewable sources of energy, such as solar, wind, and geothermal power, as well as reduce our dependence on fossil fuel.
Water pollution is another major environmental issue. Pollutants such as pesticides, industrial chemicals, sewage, and agricultural runoff can enter our water systems and contaminate our drinking water. This can lead to a variety of health problems, including gastrointestinal illnesses and cancer. To reduce water pollution, we can reduce our usage of chemicals, implement proper sewage treatment systems, and protect our waterways from runof
Climate change is also a major environmental issue. Human activities, such as burning fossil fuels and deforestation, have caused global temperatures to rise, leading to changes in global weather patterns and extreme weather events. To address climate change, we must reduce our reliance on fossil fuels, mitigate deforestation, and switch to renewable sources of energ
Deforestation is another major environmental issue. Trees play an important role in the environment, as they absorb and store carbon dioxide and provide habitats for wildlife. Deforestation is caused by human activities, such as logging and clearing land for agricultural purposes. To reduce deforestation, we must reduce our reliance on wood and paper products, protect forests, and restore degraded forest.
Species extinction is yet another major environmental issue. Human activities, such as poaching, habitat destruction, and climate change, are leading to a rapid decline in the number of species in the world. This can lead to an imbalance in the food chain and can have a devastating impact on the environment. To protect species from extinction, we must reduce habitat destruction, reduce poaching, and protect endangered species.
Vehicles are equipped with catalytic converters to reduce pollution emitted from burning of fuels in them. Catalytic converters have platinum, palladium or rhodium as catalyst. Catalytic converters can change harmful gases like hydrocarbons to CO2 plus H2O, Carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide, nitric oxide to nitrogen gas. Lead inactivate the catalyst in catalytic converters.
Electrostatic precipitator removes 99% of particulate matter. Gaseous pollutants like SO2 can be removed by scrubber. Delhi rent for out of 41 most polluted cities in the world. The interpret of public transport was transferred from diesel to CNG. CNG is cheaper and burn more effectively. CNG cannot be siphoned off by thieves. It also cannot be adultered.
